anyways (I say this as someone who is deeply critical of the united states government, military, unchecked capitalism, police, etc) I am SICK of people treating america as if it has no cultural value or positives so….. I love u blue jeans and barbecues and jazz musicians
For y’all in the notes saying “well actually rock n roll and the food here were made by marginalized communities who were discriminated against” I hate to break it to you but you’re like two steps away from saying “well black people and Mexicans aren’t actually American the same way white people are” because whatever the reason, whether it was through oppression or not, BIPOC have influenced American culture an incredible amount and it’s so disrespectful and racist to say they don’t actually count as Americans
American culture isn’t exclusively white culture. American culture is far deeper and more diverse than that.
Everytime I read Frankenstein, the same line makes me put the book down and stare at the wall. It’s my favorite line in the book; it has its own highlighter color in my annotations. The first time I read it, I literally detoured after my last class just to tell my lit teacher how much I liked the line because I couldn’t wait until second period the next day. Here’s the line:
“Life, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it.”
This is said by the creature. He wanted to live. He wanted to live life so badly even though he had had such a difficult one. He still loved the song of the birds and the smell of the flowers and the joy in the world even if he never got to truly experience that joy. I just. AHHHH.
He wanted to fight for a life he never got to live.
The creature grew up in a world were he wasn’t loved. Yet, he loved the world.
Don’t get me wrong the USA is a hell country and most of what is considered usamerican culture is a fucking NIGHTMARE and a lot of us are suffering both in and out of the country bc of it but. There’s certain things that people outside of the USA make fun of and not in a jovial way that I’m like hmm. Fucka you actually
“why are the food and drink proportions so big” why shouldn’t they be??? What’s so bad about nobody feeling like they’re still hungry and also often times it’s with the intention of having leftovers bc you’re not expected to clean your plate at restaurants. Also who doesn’t like a large beverage????
“americans are so FAT and LOUD and CHEERFUL” yeah and our meat is also fucking huge. got any other cool and rad things about us???
“ugh [insert food that is usually either southern food or immigrant food but especially biscuits and gravy for some fucking reason???] Looks so gross and unhealthy why would you eat that??” Because it’s fucking good and tasty what’re you talking about
“why would you take a road trip???” Well historically it’s because due to the infastructure and lack there if that was established in the 1940s and continues to this day road trips are often the cheapest and most accessible form of travel and they come with the added practically that depending on what supplies you bring what season it is and what car you have you can sleep in said car during the journey which is an added level of both convenience and cuts down on costs further.
For most people though it’s because it’s fun go grab a bunch of snacks and a friend or two and go some place it rules
“cringey Americans use FAHRENHEIT for WEATHER” my thermostat is always set at 69 😎😎😎😎
The “and Ken” sign says so much. Not only do the police identify him as some crazily dressed guy just tagging along with an equally crazily dressed girl who just decked someone in the face, they also cuff him even though it seems like he hasn’t done anything because he tagged along with his girlfriend even to get arrested.
He’s an accessory even to a convicted Barbie. You do not separate a Ken from his Barbie even in jail. Ken is having the time of his life even in incarceration because he’s there with Barbie.
oh my god she was charged with assault and he was charged as an accessory
[ID: A photo showing Ken from the 2023 live action Barbie film. He wears bright clothes and is getting his photo taken at a police station, the name sign he holds reads “and Ken”. He looks like he’s having a great time, smiling brightly /End ID]
